Frequently asked questions

What’s the class start date?

Group classes will begin from the week beginning September 2nd, assuming the minimum number of four students have registered interest. This is because I will be moving back to the UK, so will need time to move into my new house, decorate, build furniture and catch up with family.

What time and day will classes be held?

Classes will be held from Monday to Thursday. They can take place from 4pm-9pm Beijing time. Once all the students have signed up, I will be in touch to survey the students to find out a compatible time when all students can attend the group class. Group classes will have first priority for choosing their time slot.

Can you run weekend classes?

I’m afraid my regular working hours are Monday-Thursday, so I won’t hold regular weekend classes. I may have one-off weekend events, especially close to exam times, but long-term group classes will be held during the working week.

Will parents receive a progress report?

Yes, parents will receive an email every three months to update them on their child’s progress and what we have been studying. Parents can also get in touch at any time with any questions or concerns they may have. If there is an immediate issue, I will also get in touch with you promptly to keep you in the loop.

What happens if the student can’t attend the class?

All group classes will be recorded so students can watch the lesson in their own time. Students are free to contact me to ask clarifying questions.

What is the maximum class size?

Six students but can go up to a maximum of eight students if all parents agree. This usually would only happen in the event that a large friendship group want to do a class together.

What is the minimum class size?

Four students are needed for the group class to run.

How can I pay?

Parents will pay monthly at the start of the month for that month’s classes. Payments can be made in any currency. Alipay, WeChat, Mastercard and Visa are all accepted.

Can you provide additional feedback on classwork and coursework?

Yes! This is included as part of the group class fee.

Do you offer one-to-one tutoring?

Yes, but these are quickly booked up. My one-to-ones are currently fully booked for September 2024 starts. You can join the tutoring waitlist here to be first in line if a space opens up.

What will the KS3 class cover?

This partially depends on the needs of the students who apply for this class, as I will base the course around their interests and areas for development. My current plan is poetry analysis, essay writing skills and short story writing to build up students’ vocabulary and accuracy.

What will the Year 10 course cover?

Students will review Macbeth, An Inspector Calls, descriptive writing and persuasive writing. Guidance will be given on essay writing skills, coursework and exam preparation.

What will the Year 11 course cover?

Students will redraft and improve coursework for both Literature and Language, receiving targeted feedback to help improve their analytical skills. After this, we will review The Whale Rider, Edexcel Poetry. The course will end with intensive exam revision for both Literature and Language.

What will the Year 12 course cover?

Students will be introduced to key skills for the IB, such as crafting a thesis statement, writing effective topic sentences, and effective analysis and evaluation skills. The class will cover a range of text types, such as poetry, non-fiction articles, infographics and political cartoons. Following this, we will review Paper 1 essay writing skills, reviewing a range of non-literary texts in preparation for midcourses. Finally, students will receive guidance and a chance to practice their Individual Oral presentation skills.

What will the Year 13 course cover?

Students will sure up their exam skills for all examined areas: Paper 1 (non-literary analysis), Paper 2 (literary comparison essays) and Individual Oral (spoken analytical presentations). This will be an intensive exam preparation course.

* How does your “refer a friend” scheme work?

If you refer a friend, you get your first lesson free when you sign up to a minimum of a month of group classes. For example, if you sign up to group classes in September, you’ll get your first lesson free and pay for the other three weeks of the month.

Your friend should make sure they enter your name under “referrals” when filling in the above registration form.

Maximum of one free lesson per student so if you refer multiple friends, you will still get only your first lesson free.

What is your cancellation and refund policy?

If you wish to cancel your full course, you can receive a refund for any lessons not attended from 24 hours after the date of cancellation onwards. For example, if you cancel on the day of your group class, you will not receive a refund for that lesson but will receive a refund for any unused classes of the remaining month.

If a student is sick or unable to attend a single class, no refund will be given. Lessons are recorded for the student’s convenience so they are able to catch up when they are able.
