IB English – Preparation Class

About the class
My Pre-IB Prep Class will run from Monday 7th July – Tuesday 12th August.
The Prep Class will consist of two live 90-minute lessons per week, totalling 12 live classes. Every week, students will have homework consisting of written or spoken exam practice, which they will receive feedback on.
Class times:
- Mondays 5:30 pm – 7:00 pm Beijing time
- Thursdays 4:00 pm – 5:30 pm Beijing time
If you cannot always attend live, you can still join the revision classes and access the lesson recordings at your convenience. You will still receive feedback on your homework and are welcome to email me any questions you have.
Suitable for students of IB English A Language and Literature SL/HL

Essay writing skills for Paper 1 and Paper 2:
- Thesis statements
- Grouping paragraphs by argument
- Effective topic sentences
- Embedding quotations
- So what? Conclusions
- Analysis of language, form and structure
- Comparative analysis
Individual Oral skills:
- Speaking academically, formally and persuasively
- Signposting
- Structure and balance
- Speaking analytically
Analysis of visual texts for Paper 1:
- Introducing new terminology for infographics, cartoons and adverts
- Identifying TCTPAT: text type, context, tone, purpose, audience and techniques
- Grouping paragraphs by argument
- Analysing interplay between visual and textual features
What will you receive?
- Two live lessons with me per week, 90 minutes each, hosted on Teams
- All live lessons will be recorded and shared after class in case you can’t attend or wish to review
- One piece of marked exam practice per week to be completed in your own time
- Ability to ask questions to clarify any questions you may have
